What are the causes of rust on metal decorative mesh?

Apr. 09, 2026

The content of alloying elements in decorative metal mesh is crucial. Good ventilation and a higher content of alloying elements also affect the quality of the metal mesh. Large stainless steel mills with advanced smelting technology, equipment, and processes can control alloying elements, remove impurities, and maintain a suitable environment for the billet to ensure quality.

A smelting environment with a nickel content of 18-20% is ideal for decorative metal mesh production. Under normal circumstances, stainless steel like this will not rust. Stable and reliable quality, good internal quality, and resistance to rust are essential. Conversely, smaller steel mills with outdated equipment and processes may fail to remove impurities during smelting, inevitably leading to rust. Poor smelting conditions also contribute to rust.

The external environment of decorative metal mesh also plays a role. Dry climates with high humidity, continuous rainy weather, or environments with high acidity or alkalinity in the air can easily cause rust. For example, 304 stainless steel with a high nickel content and a chromium content of around 10.5% is less prone to rusting.
