How to distinguish the material of stainless steel screen mesh?

Apr. 07, 2026

Stainless steel screens should ideally be made of SUS304 stainless steel. However, many unscrupulous manufacturers use 201 stainless steel instead of 304 to reduce costs. It's difficult for the average person to distinguish between 201 and 304 with the naked eye. To prevent more unscrupulous manufacturers from misleading our vibrating screen users and disrupting market order, which would affect user experience and production, we need to provide the following methods:

Material Differentiation Methods:

The chemical formula for 201 is 1Cr17Mn6Ni5, while the chemical formula for 304 is 06Cr19Ni10. The main difference lies in the nickel and chromium content. 201 contains 17 chromium, 5 chromium, and 6 manganese, while 304 contains 19 chromium and 10 nickel. This results in differences in color, corrosion resistance, acid and alkali resistance, and toughness.

In terms of color, because 201 stainless steel contains manganese, its color is darker than 304, which is brighter and whiter.

In terms of corrosion resistance, 201 stainless steel contains manganese and will rust over time in humid or high-salt environments, while 304 stainless steel does not contain manganese and therefore will not rust.

Regarding acid and alkali resistance, 201 stainless steel has a lower nickel content and therefore is less resistant to acids and alkalis than 304 stainless steel.

In terms of toughness, 304 stainless steel is more durable. 201 stainless steel is harder and more brittle than 304 stainless steel. An experiment with a hard scratching tool will leave a noticeable scratch on the surface of 201 stainless steel, while leaving no noticeable scratch on the surface of 304 stainless steel.
